Who I am & Why I Ride

Profile: Brad Ellis

Brad Ellis is about to embark on the ride of his life - a 2700km mission on two wheels to help change the lives of the desperately poor in Bali.

Brad is a 23 year old electrician cycling from Adelaide to Perth in honour of his mate Mitch Gillam who was tragically killed in a scooter accident in Bali in 2010. His inspiration for the ride is drawn from the strength and courage of Mitch's family and seeing them turn a tragedy into a triumph through the establishment of 'A Mitch Gillam Project'.

Brad will leave Adelaide on May 16th and ride his bike to Perth to raise funds for Project Seraya. All money raised will be used to build houses and infrastructure for the desperately poor people from the mountainous, Eastern Bali region.

The tour will be the culmination of months of training, hours of planning and many nights of dreaming.

It is Brad’s ambition to prove that a regular, everyday bloke can achieve something that most people would think crazy or impossible. He does not have the luxury of huge corporate sponsors or a high profile name, but what he does have is determination and grit...and of course, he has the memory of Mitch to guide, encourage and inspire.

'Mates on a Mission,' is not just a bike ride, it is not just a fundraiser, and it is not just a tribute to a mate. It is a ride for mateship, compassion and healing.

Mitch Gillam: 26th July 1990 - 8th December 2010
